Rider @ George Mason Recap

Rider defeated George Mason 29-9 in a MAC dual at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., on Feb. 4, 2024.

The dual was decided by Rider’s string of bonus-point wins. Tyler Klinsky delivered an 18-3 technical fall at 125 pounds, and Richie Koehler followed with a fall over Brandon Wittenberg at 133 to pick up six team points. Azeem Bell added a 14-4 major decision at 197, and heavyweight David Szuba closed the scoring with a 22-5 technical fall at 285. Those four matches alone generated 20 of Rider’s 29 team points.

That burst of bonus scoring created the clear separation between the teams. While George Mason collected nine total points, it could not counter Rider’s ability to turn tight moments into extra points through majors, tech falls and a pin. The combination of Klinsky’s and Szuba’s technical falls and Koehler’s pin provided the decisive swing that put the dual out of reach.

Rider leaves Fairfax with a 29-9 road victory; George Mason will need to shore up bonus-defense and look for more offense in their next MAC outing.
