Minnesota @ Ohio State Recap
Minnesota edged Ohio State 20-17 in Columbus on Feb. 7, 2025, a tight Big Ten dual decided by bonus points. The teams split several high-scoring bouts, but Minnesota’s extra-point wins ultimately made the difference.
Ohio State notched two major decisions that kept the Buckeyes within striking distance: Brendan McCrone downed Cooper Flynn 9-0 and Dylan D’Emilio beat Drew Roberts 11-3, each worth four team points. Those bonus wins gave Ohio State a foothold in what was a back-and-forth meet.
Minnesota responded with a string of bonus victories that swung the dual. Tommy Askey turned in an 11-2 major decision, and Andrew Sparks delivered a match-ending technical fall, dominating 18-1 for five team points. Max McEnelly added another major decision, 15-5, and those bonus results produced the bulk of Minnesota’s scoring surge.
Gable Steveson’s 13-4 major at heavyweight capped Minnesota’s performance and helped preserve the narrow margin. With both sides collecting bonus points, the difference came down to Minnesota’s tech fall and the cluster of majors that supplied the extra points needed for a 20-17 win in Columbus.
