Rider shuts out Bloomsburg 42-0 to clinch MAC East title
Rider collected five bonus-point wins, including two pins and three technical falls, in a 42-0 home sweep that secured the MAC East Division crown.
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. — Rider blanked Bloomsburg 42-0 on Feb. 7, using a string of bonus-point victories to close out the dual and clinch the MAC East Division title.
The Broncs opened the scoring at 125 when No. 21 Tyler Klinsky posted an 8-1 decision, building a multi-period cushion and finishing with a riding-time point. Will Betancourt followed with a fall at 133 to extend Rider’s early margin.
A decisive middle stretch delivered the knockout. No. 20 Elijah Griffin pinned Richie Woods in the first period at 141 for six team points. Two bouts later Dylan Layton ended his match by 17-2 technical fall at 149, pushing the score further out of Bloomsburg’s reach.
Rider’s upperweights completed the shutout. No. 31 Brendon Abdon recorded a 17-1 technical fall at 165 and No. 19 Brock Zurawski finished with a 16-1 technical fall at 197. Those bonus-margin wins, combined with the early pin and technical fall, accounted for five bonus-point victories in the dual.
The most competitive match in the middle slate came at 157. Gianni Maldonado secured a takedown in overtime to beat William Morrow 4-1, a sequence that was the lone regulation tie and did not alter Rider’s control of the dual.
Rider added decisions at 174 and 184 — including a 7-1 win by No. 31 Enrique Munguia at 174 and an 8-1 decision at 184 — and closed with a 7-3 decision at heavyweight to finalize the 42-0 margin.
The win clinched the MAC East Division title for Rider and completed a 6-0 conference dual mark, the Rider athletic department said. Bout records and the event summary show a combination of falls, technical falls and key decisions produced the shutout.
