Binghamton edges Franklin & Marshall 23-14 at Binghamton University

Bonus-point results and a string of close decisions gave the Bearcats a 23-14 EIWA dual victory on Jan. 18, 2026.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — Binghamton defeated Franklin & Marshall 23-14 in an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association dual Sunday at Binghamton University.

The dual was decided by bonus-point exchanges and a run of narrow decisions in the middle weights. Franklin & Marshall’s Mason Leiphart opened with a 15-0 technical fall at 133, and No. 7 James Conway recorded a pin at 184 after building a large lead that included a four-point nearfall in the first period.

Binghamton answered with its own bonus scoring. Carson Wagner opened the dual with a 14-5 major decision at 125, recording takedowns in each period and a riding-time point. Later Mikey Squires posted a 12-2 major at 197 to add four team points and push the host ahead in the late going.

A stretch of tight matches in the middle of the lineup swung momentum for the Bearcats. Caleb Sweet won sudden-victory overtime at 149 after a stalling call was recorded against Pat Phillips. Fin Nadeau followed with a 7-4 decision at 157 and Jordan Brown added a 6-3 decision at 165, a sequence that moved Binghamton in front before Conway’s fall cut the lead to two with two bouts remaining.

No. 27 Carter Baer preserved a key margin with a 5-0 decision at 174, scoring an escape and takedown in the second period and receiving a riding-time point that finalized the margin. With the dual hanging in the balance, Squires’ major at 197 extended the Bearcats’ advantage to 20-14.

Trent Sibble closed the meet at heavyweight with a 6-0 decision, scoring all six points in the third period to protect Binghamton’s four-point margin and secure the 23-14 final.

The dual featured high-impact results on both sides. Franklin & Marshall’s technical fall and Conway’s pin supplied six-team-point swings, but Binghamton’s pair of major decisions and a sequence of narrow wins in the 149–174 window offset those outcomes and produced the final team difference.
