Ezekiel Witt opened with a pin and the Bison closed with four straight major decisions to pull away in Fargo.
FARGO, N.D. — Jan. 31 — North Dakota State defeated Northern Colorado 30-17 at North Dakota State University.
No. 19 Ezekiel Witt opened the dual with a pin at 125 pounds, recording a first-period takedown and a second-period reversal before finishing with a third-period takedown and the fall.
Northern Colorado answered at 133 when No. 13 Dominick Serrano edged Tristan Daugherty, 5-2. Serrano’s 3-point takedown in the second period gave him the lead; he added an escape and a riding-time point in the third to hold off Daugherty.
NDSU regained momentum at 141 when Zytavius Williams won by technical fall, 18-3. Williams built an early lead with multiple first-period takedowns and closed the match late in the third with a takedown that produced the 15-point margin.
Northern Colorado also scored at 149 when KJ Evans finished by technical fall, 15-0, over Peyton Moore.
The 157-pound bout produced a late swing as Gavin Drexler rallied to a 6-4 decision over Daishun Powe. Drexler erased an early deficit with late third-period scoring and riding time to secure the victory.
After intermission the Bison collected four consecutive major decisions. Max Magayna won at 174 by major decision, 13-4, fueled by a second-period takedown and two four-point nearfalls. Aidan Brenot followed with a 13-5 major decision at 184, then Devin Wasley — listed No. 28 at 197 — posted an 11-1 major decision after takedowns in each period and a riding-time point. Shilo Jones closed the dual with a 13-1 major decision at heavyweight.
North Dakota State recorded several bonus-point wins, including pins, technical falls and multiple major decisions, while Northern Colorado’s scoring came in individual bouts across the middle weights.
The dual took place at the Scheels Center inside the Sanford Health Athletic Complex on the North Dakota State campus.
