Michigan State @ Michigan Recap
Michigan ran away with the rivalry at the Bahna Wrestling Center in Ann Arbor on January 9, 2026, topping Michigan State 43-3. The Wolverines piled up bonus points throughout the line-up, turning what might have been a tight dual into a lopsided final margin.
A series of high-impact wins did the damage. Christian Tanefeu supplied a fall over Nick Corday for six team points, and Michigan closed with big tech falls from two of its heavy hitters. Brock Mantanona, ranked #8, rolled to a 19-3 technical fall over Ryan Boucher, and #6 Taye Ghadiali finished Josh Terrill by technical fall, 20-4. Those bonus-point victories, combined with additional majors and pins elsewhere, created an insurmountable cushion and effectively decided the meet well before the final buzzer.
There was one notable upset-sized result in the middle weights when #33 Hayden Walters edged #29 Kael Wisler 7-2, a win that underscored Michigan’s depth. By the end Michigan had collected multiple bonus wins and left East Lansing with a 40-point margin, while Michigan State managed just three team points on the day.
