Virginia Tech blanks Appalachian State 39-0
Hokies won all 10 bouts and collected six bonus-point victories, including two technical falls, in a shutout in Blacksburg.
BLACKSBURG, Va. — Virginia Tech shut out Appalachian State 39-0 on Friday, winning all 10 bouts and recording six bonus-point victories.
No. 3 Eddie Ventresca opened the scoring with a technical fall, finishing Colby McBride 21-5 to provide a five-team-point swing that set an early tone for the dual.
No. 13 Ethen Miller preserved a 6-3 decision at 157 pounds. Match transcript entries show Jeremiah Price recorded a third-period reversal that trimmed the margin late, but Miller’s earlier scoring held through the final horn.
Virginia Tech’s bonus production continued through the middle weights. Sergio Desiante recorded a 19-2 technical fall at 174, and Collin Gaj added a 10-2 major decision over No. 26 Kaden Keiser at 149. Mac Church posted a 9-0 major decision at 165.
Jaden Bullock, listed at No. 30 in the 184-pound rankings, delivered an 8-6 decision over No. 25 Tomas Brooker, a result local reports identified as one of the dual’s standout individual moments.
Upper-weight wins by Sonny Sasso (8-0 major at 197) and No. 15 Jimmy Mullen (12-6 at heavyweight) closed the card as Virginia Tech converted multiple match-ending sequences into team points and denied Appalachian State any scoring opportunities.
Appalachian State had competed the night before, and the Mountaineers traveled to Blacksburg for the dual, according to the visiting-team report. The combination of ranked winners and a string of bonus-point results left little room for a comeback and produced the 39-0 shutout.
