CLARION, Pa. — American closed its regular season with a 26-10 victory over Clarion on Sunday at Clarion University.

Clarion opened the dual with two early decisions. Travis Clawson beat JJ Peace 8-1 at 125, and Joey Fischer provided a 4-2 decision at 133 after a third-period 3-point takedown at the 0:30 mark that supplied the margin. Fischer is listed as No. 33 at 133 in the supplied rankings.

American responded in the middle weights to turn the dual. Raymond Lopez, wrestling up to 141, finished with a 16-5 major decision that included multiple third-period takedowns to build the margin. Leo Maestas followed with a 7-3 decision at 149, using two three-point takedowns and a third-period escape to seal the win.

Kaden Milheim scored a 5-0 decision at 157 for American, posting a first-period takedown, a second-period escape and a riding-time point. Clarion answered at 165 when Alejandro Herrera-Rondon recorded an 11-0 major decision over Gavin Cohen, combining a second-period takedown-plus-near-fall, a late penalty against Cohen and a third-period takedown with riding time.

Hunter Hohman extended American’s advantage with an 11-5 decision at 174, building a lead with early takedowns that held despite a late rally by Gabe Lilly. At 184, No. 30 Caleb Campos recorded a 10-1 major decision; Campos built on an early takedown and closed the match with a third-period escape and takedown and a riding-time point that preserved the margin.

The result ended American’s dual slate ahead of the EIWA Championships. American’s team recap noted the victory closed the regular season and referenced the squad’s upcoming trip to the conference tournament.

Clarion’s program site has highlighted Herrera-Rondon previously for a sequence of wins earlier in the season, and his 11-0 effort here was one of Clarion’s most decisive individual results.

Match logs and bout recaps supplied with the event record show the key sequences that decided the dual: Fischer’s third-period takedown at 0:30 (133), Lopez’s string of third-period takedowns at 141 and Campos’ third-period escape and takedown at 184, followed by riding time. Those sequences, combined with American’s string of middle- and upper-weight victories, produced the team margin that decided the dual.
