Maryland Men's Wrestling topped Northwestern Men's Wrestling 29-15 in Maryland, MD on January 14, 2024. The dual swung on bonus points as Maryland racked up several high-scoring victories, while Northwestern got a big early result at 125 pounds.
Massey Odiotti supplied the most surprising moment for Northwestern, dominating Tommy Capul 21-4 by technical fall to deliver five team points. Maryland answered with a string of bonus wins through the middle weights, turning the match in their favor with multiple technical falls and a fall that produced a decisive scoring run.
The turning point came at 157, where Michael North pinned Trevor Chumbley to add six crucial points for Maryland and push the Terrapins ahead. In the end Maryland’s collection of bonus-point victories proved too much for Northwestern. The Terrapins’ combination of technical falls and the mid-dual pin provided the margin, while Northwestern’s bonus efforts were limited to a few bright spots that weren’t enough to overcome Maryland’s depth.
