Northwestern @ Wisconsin Recap
Wisconsin knocked off Northwestern 30-12 on February 2, 2024 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The Badgers piled up bonus points in several key bouts to build a lead that Northwestern could not erase over the course of the dual.
The margin came largely from Wisconsin’s string of bonus victories. Eric Barnett beat Massey Odiotti 15-2 by major decision, Nicolar Rivera followed with a 13-4 major decision over Patrick Adams, and Zan Fugitt added a 16-3 major decision against Kolby McClain. Max Maylor then recorded a fall over David Ferrante, turning those majors and a pin into a decisive points haul for Wisconsin.
Northwestern fought back in a couple of spots. Trevor Chumbley scored a technical fall, beating Cody Goebel 20-5 and picking up five team points, and Jack Jessen closed the dual with an 11-1 major decision over Gannon Rosenfeld at 285 pounds. Those bonus results narrowed the gap but arrived after Wisconsin had already accumulated substantial bonus scoring.
In the end Wisconsin’s four bonus wins, including a pin, outweighed Northwestern’s two bonus efforts and produced the 18-point margin. The final 30-12 score reflected the Badgers’ ability to convert several matches into major decisions and a fall, while Northwestern’s late bonus outcomes kept the dual competitive but insufficient to change the result.
