A trio of bonus wins for Gardner-Webb proved decisive. Todd Carter opened up a big margin with a 15-0 technical fall at 141 that earned five team points, while Sam Mora’s 8-0 major decision at 174 and Jha'Quan Anderson’s 16-3 major at 184 each added four team points. Those extra points from majors and a tech fall created separation that Davidson could not fully erase.

Davidson answered with a big pin at heavyweight as Jake Fernicola recorded a fall over Peyton McComas for six team points, keeping the Wildcats within reach late. Despite that high-value victory, Davidson’s bonus scoring was not enough to overcome Gardner-Webb’s cluster of bonus results in the middle weights.
