George Mason tops Clarion 26-18 as bonus points decide dual

Kaden Cassidy’s technical fall and DJ McGee’s major decision helped George Mason build a bonus-point cushion that Clarion could not overcome at the GMU Field House.

FAIRFAX, Va. — George Mason beat Clarion 26-18 at the GMU Field House on Feb. 13, 2026.

The dual hinged on bonus scoring. George Mason secured five bonus-point victories — including a 17-2 technical fall by No. 19 Kaden Cassidy at 149 and an 11-3 major decision by No. 22 DJ McGee at 157 — while Clarion recorded one pin, giving Mason the 8-point margin.

Clarion opened the dual with a pair of early results in its favor. Travis Clawson edged Ben Monn 5-4 at 125, securing a takedown at the 0:32 mark of the third period for the decisive points, and Joey Fischer was credited with a medical forfeit at 133.

George Mason answered with a major decision from Tate Hisey at 141, 9-0, and Cassidy’s technical fall at 149 tied the dual before McGee’s major at 157 put Mason ahead. McGee opened his bout with a takedown at the 0:14 mark of the first period and added scoring across the middle periods to finish 11-3.

Clarion’s Alejandro Herrera-Rondon kept the dual close with a 5-1 decision at 165, pulling his team within a point, but Mason’s 174- and 184-pound winners provided the next swing. No. 32 Logan Messer beat Gabe Lilly 9-4 at 174 and No. 26 Malachi DuVall followed with a 10-2 major at 184, both outcomes contributing bonus-team points for Mason.

Jack Kelly’s fall at 197 produced six team points for George Mason and effectively put the dual out of reach. Clarion responded with a first-period pin by John Meyers at 285, which earned six points and trimmed the final margin but did not alter the outcome.

The dual featured a string of decisive results in the scholastic weights that underpinned Mason’s victory: multiple techs and majors in the middle weights offset Clarion’s two early decisions and the late heavyweight pin. Ranked wins for Cassidy and McGee were pivotal in tipping the team score in George Mason’s favor.

George Mason recorded six individual wins to Clarion’s four; five of Mason’s victories produced bonus points. Clarion’s lone bonus-point result came at heavyweight, where Meyers claimed the fall.

The meet was held on senior night for George Mason, a detail noted in team releases, and the result moved both squads through the mid-February part of the schedule with opposing records reported by team materials available after the match.
