Virginia Tech @ Duke Recap
Virginia Tech knocked off Duke 31-15 at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina on January 24, 2025. The Hokies separated themselves from the Blue Devils with a string of bonus-point wins that produced the margin of victory.
Virginia Tech got two emphatic technical falls in the low weights as Connor McGonagle dominated Raymond Adams 16-1 at 133 pounds and Sam Latona ran up a 23-6 technical fall over Christian Colman at 141. Those back-to-back five-point performances made a big dent in the team score and forced Duke to rely on a few big responses to stay in the match.
Duke answered with its lone bonus when SP O'Donnell pinned Chris Bacchioni at 149 for six team points, but Virginia Tech’s offense kept coming. Lennox Wolak turned in a 22-6 technical fall at 174 and Jimmy Mullen closed out the dual with a 20-5 technical fall at heavyweight, ensuring the Hokies kept the bonus-point advantage.
In the end Virginia Tech’s ability to convert bonus opportunities separated the teams. Five technical falls and timely big victories across the lineup produced the decisive 16-point margin, leaving Duke with too much ground to make up despite the 149-pound pin.
