Virginia Tech @ Cornell Recap
Cornell Men's Wrestling beat Virginia Tech Men's Wrestling 24-10 in New York on January 7, 2024. The dual settled on one side early as bonus points proved decisive, with Cornell collecting multiple major decisions to pull away from the ACC visitors.
Virginia Tech got a highlight when Sam Latona upended Ethan Qureshi 14-3 at 133 pounds for a major decision, delivering four team points and giving the Hokies a momentum jolt. That victory stood out for Virginia Tech, but it was not enough to offset Cornell’s barrage of bonus-point wins later in the lineup.
Cornell answered emphatically in three spotlight matches. Julian Ramirez controlled a 10-0 major at 165, Chris Foca turned in a 12-4 major at 184, and Jacob Cardenas closed the stretch with an 11-1 major at 197. Those three majors supplied 12 team points and were the turning point that created the separation the Big Red needed to secure the 14-point victory.
In the end, the dual came down to bonus scoring. Virginia Tech’s major at 133 was a big individual result, but Cornell’s string of major decisions across the middle-to-heavy weights produced the scoring run that decided the meet and left the final score 24-10 in favor of Cornell.
