Penn State blanks Indiana 48-0 at Rec Hall
Penn State collected nine bonus-point wins, including two pins and multiple technical falls, to shut out Indiana in State College.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Penn State beat Indiana 48-0 at Rec Hall on Jan. 23, 2026, blanking the Hoosiers through a string of bonus-point victories that prevented Indiana from scoring.
The Nittany Lions registered nine bonus-point results in the dual, including pins from No. 1 Luke Lilledahl (125) and No. 1 Mitchell Mesenbrink (165). Lilledahl opened with takedowns in the first period and added another takedown in the second before finishing the match by fall. Mesenbrink built a first-period lead with takedowns and two four-point nearfalls and then secured a first-period pin.
Penn State’s lineup also produced multiple technical falls: Marcus Blaze won 19-4 at 133, No. 1 Shayne Van Ness recorded a 20-3 technical fall at 149, No. 2 PJ Duke closed at 157 with a 21-5 technical fall, Levi Haines posted a 17-1 technical fall at 174, and Cole Mirasola ended the night with a 22-6 technical fall at 285.
The Nittany Lions added major decisions at 141 and 197. Braeden Davis (141) won by major decision, 24-10, and No. 1 Josh Barr (197) posted a 14-6 major decision. Rocco Welsh, wrestling at 184 and listed No. 1 in the rankings, beat Sam Goin 15-9 by decision.
The dual featured extensive scoring by ranked Penn State starters. No. 1-ranked wrestlers Lilledahl, Mesenbrink, Welsh, Haines and Barr all contributed to the shutout, while No. 2 PJ Duke and ranked competitors Blaze and Mirasola added bonus-point victories that widened the margin.
Penn State built a large lead by intermission and never relinquished control, converting takedowns, near-falls and pins into high-value team points that removed any realistic comeback path for Indiana. The official results and bout logs list the fall and technical-fall outcomes that produced the 48-point margin.
The dual took place before a sellout crowd at Rec Hall. Team releases and game notes list Penn State at 10-0 overall and 4-0 in Big Ten play and Indiana at 6-3 overall and 1-2 in conference action coming out of the meet.
Penn State will carry the shutout into its next scheduled conference dual; Indiana returns home to resume Big Ten competition.
