West Virginia @ Oklahoma Recap
West Virginia picked up a 22-13 dual victory at Oklahoma on January 17, 2025, in Norman. The Mountaineers’ cushion came largely from bonus-point wins that swung the team score in their favor, while Oklahoma stayed within reach thanks to a major at 133 pounds.
At 125 pounds Jett Strickenberger delivered a major decision, beating Antonio Lorenzo 11-2 for four team points and an early boost for West Virginia. Cleveland Belton answered for Oklahoma at 133, handing Tommy Maddox a 14-3 major decision to pull the Sooners back into contention with four team points of his own.
The clear turning point was at 165, where Peyton Hall closed out a 17-2 technical fall, scoring five team points and creating separation that Oklahoma could not overcome. West Virginia extended the margin later at 197 when Ian Bush posted a 14-5 major decision, adding another four bonus points and effectively putting the dual out of reach.
Three bonus wins for West Virginia compared with one for Oklahoma decided the meet. While the Sooners got a big individual result from Belton, Hall’s technical fall and the Mountaineers’ other bonus victories supplied the decisive scoring that produced the nine-point final margin.
