Edinboro’s bonus-point surge powers 28-11 win over Clarion

A fall and a major decision in the middle of the dual created a gap Clarion could not close at McComb Fieldhouse.

Edinboro used high-value scoring to build a cushion it never surrendered in a 28-11 victory over Clarion in Edinboro, Pa.

Clarion opened the dual with two early decisions — Travis Clawson took a 9-6 decision at 125 and Joey Fischer, No. 33, followed with a 6-1 decision at 133 — but the momentum swung sharply in Edinboro’s favor in the middle weights.

Jacob Brenneman put the Scots ahead with a fall at 141, a result that supplied the full six-team points and energized the home crowd at McComb Fieldhouse. Edinboro stretched the lead further when Ryan Burgos, No. 31, narrowly beat Alejandro Herrera-Rondon 5-4 at 165, keeping the dual tilted toward the hosts.

The most damaging outcome for Clarion came at 174, where Tate Geiser produced a 20-6 major decision that added four bonus points and widened the margin. Those bonus-point outcomes were decisive: Edinboro won five straight bouts through the middle of the lineup to secure separation.

Clarion answered with Adrian Gacek’s 21-6 technical fall at 184, a five-team-point performance that kept the Golden Eagles on the board but arrived after the Scots had already accumulated the extra-team points that decided the dual.

With the bonus wins in the middle weights creating a large cushion, Edinboro closed out a 28-11 team victory and left Clarion at .500 in conference play.
