Michigan @ Northwestern Recap
Michigan beat Northwestern 26-10 in Evanston, IL on January 17, 2025, cruising to a 16-point dual meet victory. The final margin was decided by bonus-point wins, with Michigan collecting multiple majors and a technical fall that the Wildcats could not match.
Northwestern did pick up a big result when Dedrick Navarro dominated at 125 pounds, posting a 14-0 major decision that supplied four team points for the Wildcats. Navarro’s performance was one of the day’s standout individual efforts and kept Northwestern competitive on the scoreboard early.
Michigan answered with a string of bonus victories that swung the dual in their favor. Sergio Lemley earned a 10-2 major decision at 141 for four team points, and Joseph Walker added another major at 174 with an 11-1 result. Jacob Cardenas reinforced Michigan’s margin with a 16-6 major at 197, and those majors provided the steady, high-value scoring Michigan needed.
The decisive blow came at heavyweight, where Joshua Heindselman closed the meet with a 22-5 technical fall, supplying five team points and putting the dual well out of reach. Between the four majors and the tech fall, Michigan’s bonus-point production was the clear difference in the 26-10 final. Northwestern’s 125-pound major prevented a shutout of bonus scoring but could not overcome Michigan’s collection of extra-point wins.
