Navy @ Binghamton Recap
Binghamton edged Navy 18-17 in a razor-close dual at Binghamton University in Binghamton, NY on January 21, 2024. The one-point margin came down to bonus-point wrestling across a few decisive matches, with both teams trading big scores that left the dual that close.
Navy picked up a signature bonus with Josh Koderhandt at 141 pounds, posting a 20-5 technical fall that delivered five team points and kept the Middies firmly in contention. That dominant performance was one of the biggest swings of the day and gave Navy a sizable lift in the team tally.
Binghamton answered with two crucial bonus wins of its own. Carson Wagner’s 13-5 major decision at 125 pounds produced four team points, and Lou DePrez put up a 20-4 technical fall at 197 pounds for five points. Those two bonus victories combined for nine team points and were the key reasons Binghamton was able to outscore Navy by the narrowest of margins.
With the dual decided by bonus scoring rather than a run of close decisions, those three bouts stood out as the most important matchups. Navy’s technical fall kept the contest competitive, but Wagner’s major and DePrez’s technical fall supplied the extra punch Binghamton needed to finish one point ahead.
