Rider awarded dual over Princeton on bonus-point criteria after 20-20 finish
No. 22 Tyler Klinsky’s technical fall and No. 22 Brock Zurawski’s pin supplied the bonus points that decided the meet in Lawrenceville.
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. — Rider was awarded the dual over Princeton on bonus-point criteria after the teams finished 20-20 at Rider University on Jan. 24, 2026.
The deciding margin came from high-value finishes for the home team. No. 22 Tyler Klinsky recorded a 22-6 technical fall at 125 pounds, scoring takedowns across all three periods and earning a five-team-point bonus. No. 22 Brock Zurawski closed his 197-pound bout by fall after building a lead with multiple takedowns and a four-point nearfall; the pin produced a six-team-point bonus.
Princeton narrowed the gap with two major decisions that together supplied eight team points. No. 22 Ty Whalen won 16-6 at 165, and Holden Garcia posted an 11-2 major at 174. Those results, along with decisions in other weights, left the teams even on the scoreboard before tiebreak criteria were applied.
Princeton also picked up a ranked victory when Matthew Martino defeated No. 16 Elijah Griffin, 9-5, at 141. Martino turned the bout in the third period with a takedown followed by a four-point nearfall that created the decisive margin.
No. 15 Eligh Rivera earned a 4-1 overtime decision at 149 over Dylan Layton after regulation ended 1-1 and Rivera secured a 3-point overtime takedown.
Xavier Giles required three overtimes to produce a 4-1 decision at 184 for Princeton, and Hogan Swenski closed the 285-pound bout with a 4-1 decision for Rider.
Rider athletics reported the result helped the program retain the MAC–Ivy Trophy for the weekend. Princeton’s recap posted a 20-19 final and noted multiple Tigers earned victories, including Martino and Rivera.
Event materials show the teams finished tied 20-20 and that Rider was awarded the meet on bonus-point criteria. The bonus outcomes — a technical fall and a pin for Rider and two major decisions for Princeton — were the decisive scoring elements in the dual.
