Michigan defeated Columbia 28-9 at the Bahna Wrestling Center in Ann Arbor on November 17, 2024. The Wolverines piled up bonus points throughout the night, turning individual bonus wins into a comfortable margin and handing Columbia a road loss in the Big Ten vs Ivy matchup.

Christian Tanefeu’s 18-9 major decision at 125 pounds set an early example, and Sergio Lemley added another major with a 12-4 victory at 141 pounds. Those 4-point wins kept Michigan firmly in control and forced Columbia to chase extra scoring to stay close.

The decisive stretch came when Michigan secured two technical falls. Brock Mantanona dominated 165 pounds with an 18-3 technical fall, and Jacob Cardenas closed out the heavy lifting at 197 with a 17-0 technical fall. Those 5-point bonus wins swung the dual beyond reach and accounted for the bulk of Michigan’s bonus scoring in the final tally.

Columbia managed to put nine team points on the board, but could not match Michigan’s run of bonus outcomes. The Wolverines’ ability to convert several matches into bonus-point victories was the difference in the 28-9 final.
